The Charente is said to have the second warmest climate in France, and is most definitely one of the last remaining places of unspoilt natural beauty.


Our nearest village is one of the main stops for the popular "VeloRail" which if you're feeling like a bit of exercise can be picked up in Confolens and either do the halfway stint to Manot and back ... or if you're feeling more adventurous cycle all the way to Roumazieres-Loubert and back, refreshments are available at the Station at Manot

The Village de Vacance also hosts a great little pub/ restaurant in a stunning riverside location, well worth a visit.


A very picturesque traditional French village, proud of the richness of its clay soil that made the fortune of the town became "The City of Clay" and the European Capital of Terracotta.


This medieval town offers a particularly harmonious group of buildings with its fortified Vieux bridge dating from the 13th century, its beautiful houses sitting along the River Vienne, and its Saint-Maxime church with a Gothic bell tower.

If you're travelling to the area in August, be sure to catch The famous Confolens International Folklore Festival, an event dedicated to the popular arts and traditions in the world - not to be missed!

Lacs De Charente

Two very large lakes, both provide excellent fishing, part of one lake has been developed for Swimming. There is also mini-golf here and a good restaurant overlooking the lake, only 20 minutes away.


An historic martyr village, a must to visit, only 30 minutes away.

On 10 June 1944, the village of Oradour-sur-Glane in Haute-Vienne in Nazi-occupied France was destroyed, when 642 of its inhabitants, including women and children, were massacred by a German Waffen-SS company.

A new village was built nearby after the war, but French president Charles de Gaulle ordered the original maintained as a permanent memorial and museum.

Both provide superb fishing, rods can be hired on a daily basis, and fishing permits organised for you.

Also, canoes and Pedalo's can be hired by the hour or half daily at either Roumazieres or Confolens - perfect for a bit of white rafting down to Manot or a leisurely splash about in the sunshine.

Poitiers light show

A beautiful, large thriving, cosmopolitan and very busy town, with an airport!

Here you can also visit Futuroscope (a moving image theme park) only 1 hour away, perfect for both adults and kids.



Famous for its pottery, host wonderful French street cafes and great for shopping. Our local airport is here, only 40 minutes away.

La Rochefoucauld

A typical picturesque French town with a grand château, which is open to the public every day. Near the entrance to the château is a small chocolate factory, worth a visit. Only 30 minutes away.


A beautiful town surrounded by Vine Yards and Melon Fields, just 60 minutes away and you can visit numerous distilleries and sample brandy and pineau at its best. Francois I, King of France was also born here.

La Rochelle

A delightful historic coastal resort, just 2 hours away. La Rochelle is also famed for it's fantastic Seafood restaurants and Cafe's spread along the harbour area, perfect for a spot of 'People Watching'

Visit one of France's most famous Zoos and the well-publicised - Monkey Valley.
